Kallithea is located at the center of the island, 800 meters away from the Moudros bay. It offers a panoramic view towards Samothraki and Imbros.
It was originally named Sarpi, which is of Mycenaean descent and still called as such, even though it was renamed to Kallithea in 1995 because it was wrongfully thought of being of Turkish descent.
The little port of Kallithea is named Sarpioskala, which is a small anchorage for fishing boats. It combines a sandy beach with beach bars to enjoy yourselves until the morning hours, when you will enjoy the most marvelous sunrise on the island. The rest rocky area is appropriate for hiking.
In 1868 after a sponsorship and long financing by Doukas Paleologos the “Paleologiki School” is established. It offered housing for the teacher, cells for the accomodation of the pupils, a kitchen and a bakery. In 1896, Garofallos Theodosiou undertook funding for the school for 3 years, and since 1900 the school became a community school and operates to this day as a special education school.
