
The settlement that kept its characteristics unchanged. A peaceful, tree planted area. The cobbled streets, the stone-built mansions, the cobblestone public square with the perennial plane tree make for a special and different part of Lemnos. In 1968 after the devastating earthquake the village was heavily damaged and abandoned, resulting in most houses to be used as summer resorts nowadays.
During your wandering around the village you will face the shed fountain at the public square (1950). You can rest there for a drink, look around the small traditional craftsmanship shop and also visit the old winery.
On the 14th century it was named Pesperago, a name that was thought to be of Turkish origin even though it was called as such before the Turkish occupation. Coincidentally it was named “Pedino” (Field), due to its location.
