A traditional village which is situated on the northwest of the island, built on the mount hills located on the north edges of Skourka mountain.
It is an old Byzantine settlement originally named Ardia or Ardie, which gave it its current name originating from the old expression “stis Ardies/stis Ardes”.

At the edge of the village you will find the Temple of Agios Dimitrios, built in 1852, at the rate of three-aisled basilica. Its unique architecture with the stunning front and the two bells makes it special.
In the current spot that the village's monument is located, in 1882 the three-tier school of Sardes (Year of Establishment: 1874) was hosted, which was demolished in 1912. With its materials and sponsorship by the Egyptian benefactor Pantelis Familiadis's the “Familiadios Sardes School” was built, housing a kitchen and a restaurant.
