Prehestoric Settlement of Myrina
The core of the prehistoric settlement emerged at the coastal location “Riha Nera” (Shallow Waters). The settlement was brought to light in 1986 and the highlighting work was over in 2004.
The archaeological studies show that the settlement was growing concurrently with Poliochne and that Myrina evolved to the proto-urban center mainly in Prime and Middle Bronze Age. Myrina, during its prime, is estimated that occupied an area of around 80.000 m² with a population of 3.000-4.000 habitants. The first habitats settled on the small rocky peninsula called “Leshi Axiomatikon” (Officers’ Club) and slowly expanded towards the current location “Riha Nera” where the center of the settlement was located.
The settlement was destroyed multiple times by earthquakes and the habitats either rebuilt it or they repaired their homes according to their needs.
The excavations brought to light a wide array of findings which is currently exhibited at the Archeological Museum of Myrina.
