The expression "St's mantres" gives the first name of the village referred to as Semandra, thanks to the numerous paddocks (mantres) in the region. In the years of Turkish occupation, Kehagiades lived here, that is to say, the farmers and stockbreeders who worked for the rich landowners, giving the name to the traditional Limnian dance "Kehagiadikos". Tsimandria is still a village rich in livestock.
In the summer, a crowd of visitors rushes to the village's main square to enjoy fresh local meats and have fun with the traditional Limnos's dances.
In recent history, Tsimandria was the first village to be freed from the Turks in 1912, following the disembarkation of Admiral Kountouriotis's fleet, soldiers raised the Greek flag on the bridge near the school.
In 1915, many Allied soldiers who participated in the Gallipolis campaign were hosted, and between 1919 and 1921, the first Cossacks were brought in after the end of the Russian civil war.
