The jewel of eastern Limnos that enchants you with the passion and love that the inhabitants have maintained their place, highlighting the special architecture of the mansions and the manicured gardens.
The development of the village begins, at a rapid pace, in the 19th century and in 1830 the first sacred church of "Genissis tou Hristou" was erected with the iconostasis decorated with original paintings. The source of the holy water is located at the entrance of the village renovated in 1849 while in 1850 the establishment of a school is mentioned for the first time, but in 1906 a new building was built, the "Papaioannios school", with contributions from compatriots from Egypt to house more and more students. The impressive stone building of the school that we find, today, was built in 1936 by Giannis Fotiadis.
Romanou highlighted excellent chiselers, as the Romanesque stone was considered of being high quality and easily carved for various creations. The stone central square, the two traditional laundries, the carved stone monument, the stone carved statue, the cave urns that were used to store products and wine, will take you for a walk through time on their own. The stone mills on the hill complete the picturesqueness of Romanou, while a visit to the Byzantine settlement of Komi, to admire the church of Agia Fotida, is a must.
Famous place for nice local wine and tsipouro but also the big festivals, on May 21, in honor of the church "Constantine and Helen" and on the 1st of August.
