Hephaestus' island
Hephaestus was the son of Zeus and Hera. According to the myth, the angered Zeus flung Hephaestus from Olympus, since he tried to help his mother while she was being punished by Zeus, because of the storm she had cast upon Hercules.
After days in the sky, Hephaestus fell on the island of Limnos, on Mount Mosihlos, and broke his legs. The inhabitants of the island looked after him, thus he decided to build his permanent workshop on this site. As a gift to the mortals, Hephaestus taught them the art of metallurgy, and the mortals, to honor him, gave his name to the city of Hephaestia.
